Gone are the days when you had to fear the dental services that accompanied old age and dental problems. Where once the only option for tooth deterioration and tooth loss was to wear dentures, there are now a wide assortment of dental implants that are not only more permanent and comfortable, but much more reliable than their predecessors.

Perhaps the only issue with modern dental implants is their price point, which tends to fall a bit higher than dentures. At Texarkana Dentist, we don’t believe that cost should ever be an impediment to receiving the dental care we all need and deserve. In this article, we’ll give you some more information on dental implants and how you can make the best decision — for your pearly whites as well as your wallet.

Benefits of Dental Implants

More and more frequently, dental implants are being used for cosmetic dentistry rather than solely for functional abilities. However, a number of older people and those with sensitive or injured teeth are still dependent on these implants for their remarkable, long-lasting ability to restore normal chewing capacity. Whether dental implants are received for aesthetic or essential reasons, the fact of the matter remains that these prosthetics do feel and function like a natural set of teeth.

Other benefits of dental implants include their anatomically complementary design; when administered, dental implants do not get in the way of your existing jawbone or facial structure. Not only is this more comfortable for the recipient, but it looks much more natural as well.

If dentures were the primary option for dental prostheses, you might be familiar with the creams and adhesives necessary to keep them working. No need to worry about those annoying supplements with dental implants. Once the prosthetic is placed, you shouldn’t need to apply any additional moisturizers or adhesive agents to keep them locked in.

Perhaps the best advantage to dental implants is their virtual permanence. Although dentures almost always need to be repaired or completely remade, dental implants can last a lifetime.

Cost of Dental Implants

At Texarkana Dentist, we provide a free consultation to all patients considering dental implants. Most dentists will perform a 3D CT scan to assess your teeth, listen to your thoughts and ideas, suggest their own procedures, and then develop an initial treatment plan.

Once the treatment plan has been drafted, you’ll receive a one-time, exact, and all-inclusive cost. In addition to the initial consultation, there are generally four subsequent appointments involved in the successful administration of dental implants. First, you’ll undergo a pre-procedure exam where the dentist or oral surgeon will make molds of your teeth and determine what size and shape of implants you’ll need. Once created, these will be fitted and adjusted until optimal comfort is attained.

Secondly, you’ll return to your dentist to have the temporary prosthetic (based on the previously taken molds) placed. This acts as a kind of temporary tooth so that you and your dentist can see how the prototype implant reacts with your natural facial structure, jawbone, and chewing patterns.

Thirdly, if all goes well with the temporary mold, you’ll be able to have your actual, permanent dental implants placed. The fourth appointment is a post-procedure check-up and, if necessary, a fitting adjustment to your prosthetic.
