Common Teeth Whitening Myths Debunked

There are many myths out there about teeth whitening.

We all would love to have pearly white teeth, which is why teeth whitening has become so popular within the last several years. Unfortunately, with the rise in popularity, there has also been an increase in the number of myths out there about teeth whitening. Luckily, our dentist in Texarkana is here to set the record straight! The following is a list of some of the most common myths about teeth whitening:

Myth #1. You’ll get the same results whether you use an at-home kit or professional teeth whitening.

The at-home teeth whitening kits that you can buy at the drug store have come a long way, but they still cannot compare to professional results. The fact of the matter is that the dentist has access to more potent whitening formulas than you can get over the counter, which leads to faster, more effective results.

Myth #2. Teeth stay white forever after you’ve whitened them.

With professional teeth whitening, the results are permanent, however, through age, foods and normal wear and tear, your teeth will start to slowly stain again over time. When you whiten with an at-home whitening kit, you will also experience staining over time, but you’ll have to whiten again sooner because the formula isn’t as strong in the first place.

Myth #3. Teeth whitening causes oral cancer.

Because there are chemicals in any whitening solution, some people think that it can lead to cancer. However, there have been many studies conducted on this subject that have disproved this myth.
